Advantages Of Learning The Piano On Your Own

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Most people will never imagine learning a piano without the guidance of a teacher. They believe that there is not much of a chance to master it without professional instruction. But despite the piano being a difficult instrument to pick up, it is not mandatory to be taught by a professional.

The piano can be learned through self instruction. Even teachers do not have every student becoming pianists, so proficiency is not a sure result from employing one. Many piano teachers are no more than guides who enforce practice, which can be done by anyone with the right discipline.

Piano teachers could also have the reverse effect on someone who is keen to pick up the instrument. A strict or disagreeable teacher could sour the whole experience for a student. If the piano lessons are boring, students might lose interest and end up turning their backs on them.

If there is a strict budget involved, then a piano teacher will be out of the question. Most teachers charge monthly fees that average hundreds of dollars, depending on their qualifications. They might provide some experience in guidance, but there are just as many willing teachers online who provide their opinions for free.

With more leeway in the learning process, it can result in greater artistic expression. That is a freedom that might not be afforded to students in a piano school and under strict teachers. It does not encourage deeper exploration and understanding of the music as they could be influenced to play and think in a certain fixed way.

By becoming self taught, there is a more relaxed atmosphere and feel to learning how to play the piano. To prevent the process from having less than desired effects, discipline should be a factor while learning the instrument. But it is a method that can fit the most trying of learning ability, and easily customized for all.

There should also be considerable usage of online piano lessons that are freely available. They will add to the whole experience, and can be suitable substitutes for piano teachers. The personal touch is lacking, and sometimes it might still take some human explanation to understand certain points. But these can be replaced by getting involved with communities who have a passion for the instrument.

There is no clear advantage to having a piano teacher compared to teaching yourself how to play. In fact, it could be easier to learn the piano yourself, and indulge in endless hours of fun with music that you enjoy. The millions of self taught professional musicians worldwide will not disagree at all.

Save Money and Time when Learning Guitar

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

It’s a heck of a lot different teaching yourself to play guitar today then it was before the Internet came around. Where I was using a 30 page book by Hal Leonard to get started with the basics, teenagers today can buy guitar instruction dvds and have their own personal instructor at home in their living room.

In this article I want to explain the benefits of learning to play guitar from a guitar instruction dvd rather then taking conventional private guitar lessons.

Money Savings

No question, guitar lessons ain’t cheap. You’ll find it costs between $15 and $25 per lesson each week if you find someone local to teach you.Compare that with a single purchase price of one hundred to two hundred dollars for a top notch dvd guitar lesson product and over the course of a year there are some serious savings to be had.

Buying a good guitar lesson dvd course like Learn and Master the guitar will give you more then a years worth of content to learn as a beginner.

Save Time

Depending on your age determines how many commitments you have to tend to each week such as friends, family and your job.If you’re an adult then being able to take a guitar lesson on your own time makes it easier to integrate into your current day-to-day life.

It’s not easy to have to make it to a guitar lesson at the exact same time each and every week. Especially if there are kids to cart around to engagements and other social and family items to tend to.

When learning using dvd guitar lessons you can sit down and watch and learn and entire lesson when you have the time to commit, that may or may not be at the same time each week.

What to Shop For

Look for guitar lessons on dvd that are made by a reputable guitar player, and ensure that the content on the dvds will carry you through for at least a few months. Some of the programs available are just to basic and they won’t get you very far.

Also if possible look for a sample of the audio and video quality the product was filmed with.It makes no difference how good the teacher is, if the dvd is crappie you won’t learn very much.

Sopor Aeternus & the Ensemble of Shadows - Bitter Sweet

There is no doubt that Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows is one of the strangest musical acts today. Its style was described as Darkwav in an unique form, not to mention the fact that it has a lot of influnces. Sopor Aeternus was formed by Anna-Varney Cantodea around the year 1989, although nobody knows the real age of Anna.

Although Sopor Aeternus got very good media attention along the years, not much is known about the personal life of the musician. Cantodea does not share much about the personal life and it does seem that it was full of depression and grief. We can describe her as being a transcender or transsexual. One thing is for sure. Anna wants to be refered to as a she and does not want to get rid of the “he” aspect due to spiritual reasons. This basically means that she does not really want to go through surgery.

A lot of mistery sits around Sopor Aeternus. For instance, nobody really knows the age of Anna although fans do think that she was born around the fifities. What is know is that Anna spent around 30 years in depression, despair and extreme loneliness. It seems that these emotions ended up being caused by many reasons from beatings to childhood trauma. She was even suicidal at the age of 12, which is too much for anyone to handle. Anna was even close to becoming blind due to something that was cancer like or actually cancer.

It seems that these events ended up with Anna discovering the “Ensmble of Shadows”, which can be described as the voices or presences that inspired her music. The musician does not talk a lot about the ensemble, except the fact that music inspiration appears in dreams. Sopor is one word that if linked to Latin relates to sleep. One other interesting fact about Anna-Varney is that she does not sing live.

The music of Sopor Aeternus has a lot of baroque and renaissance influences. Critics think that the instrumentation is very melancholic and a lot of brass instruments are used. The most common instruments noticed are drum machines, synthesizers, pipe organs, guitars, bells, violins, flutes, strink quartets and real percussion. Tempo is known to range and we can say that a lot of differences exist between tracks. Sopor Aeternus creates albums that are different from each other with a lot of musical influences from Gothic music to ambiental.

If you want to listen to Sopor Aeternus music make sure that you visit Devil Music. You will find everything from folk metal to music videos.

All About Vintage Guitar Gear

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

If you play guitar, you’ve probably listened to old records, and marveled at the tone you were hearing. Of course, much of what you hear is due to the guitar player, but gear does play a part. You’re hearing the amazing tone of high quality vintage guitar gear. Though there isn’t anything magical about vintage gear, it often had a build quality and special character that gear today often lacks.

The first step to getting this vintage tone is getting a nice vintage guitar. While a brand new Gibson electric guitar might still sound great, a vintage one will be even better. Of course, you pay for this tone. Vintage guitars are not cheap! However, with their high quality, aged wood, hand wound pickups, and high quallity construction, vintage guitars are worth it for many.

Merely having a vintage guitar is no enough, though. To get the full sound, you’ll want to get a vintage tube amp. Tube amps, vintage or otherwise, have always had a warmer, smoother, more natural sounding tone than solid state amps. Paired with a quality instrument, a tube amp is very expressive, almost like an instrument in itself.

Of course, if you’re buying vintage gear, you’re not going to be able head over to your local music store and start picking up amps and guitars. Rather, you’ll have to shop online or at specialty stores. If you’re looking to buy vintage Fender guitars online (or any other brand), there are many places to go that offer a wide selection. Again, you’ll pay for this, but for many it’s worth it.

So, I hope this help you see how you can get amazing tone with vintage gear. While nothing replaces skill when it comes to making great music, having the right vintage gear can help take your sound to the next level. Start looking around today for the vintage guitar of your dreams! The amazing tone will be worth the cost.

The rise and rise of 50 Cent

50 Cent - In Da Club

By joining forces with hip-hop masterminds Eminem and Dr. Dre, 50 Cent burst onto the rap music scene with enormous force, backed by his aggressive lyrics and violent nature. His debut album shot straight to number one and sold 1.5 million copies in its first week and a half of release, the highest ever for a debut.

The hype surrounding 50’s highly anticipated debut album lead to 50 Cent-mania. Anything rap-related these days has 50’s face, thuggish voice, or the hook from “In Da Club” plastered all over it. It seemed as if 50 miraculously emerged from the streets as an overnight sensation. 50 has appeared on the cover of major magazines everywhere including Rolling Stone and XXL. His first release, “In Da Club“, shot straight to the number one slot on radio and music video stations across the nation.

50 Cent’s history as a drug dealer on the streets of New York, and the fact that he survived being shot 9 times in a gang-related attack in 2000 give him a level of authenticity that few other hip-hop artists with pretentions to being “gangsters” can match. The girls, guns, cars and bling that feature in each of the 50 Cent music videos, along with a series of games for Playstation and XBox featuring 50 as a vigilante style killer have all helped to cement a violent, thuggish image. But his street cred also stems from his success as an acclaimed lyricist, featured on various mix tapes in his early days on the hip hop scene. Most of these mix tapes circulated throughout the streets of New York City. And as the story goes, 50’s raps on these mix tapes is what hooked Eminem’s attention, which led to his $1 million signing to Shady Records and Dre’s Aftermath Records, in turn leading to the release of Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. Watch 50 Cent videos online to get a taste of this international hip hop superstar.

How To Get Started With Bass Guitar

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Looking into playing bass guitar? This is a great idea on your part! While the bass guitar isn’t nearly as popular as the regular electric guitar, it can be just as rewarding to play, if not more. The bass player forms a bridge between the rhythm section and the rest of the band. Without a bass player, bands tend to sound thin, so your job is certainly important.

So, how do you get started playing the bass guitar? Obviously, you’ll need a bass. The most popular style of bass are the Fender basses. With Fender, there are two main styles of basses, the Precision Bass and the Jazz Bass. Each of these have their own distintive tone, to be sure to listen to each before buying. There are also fancier types of basses out there, such as fretless basses, but let’s not worry about those right now.

You will also need a bass amplifier. These amplifiers make it possible to hear what you are playing. To start, get a small practice amp, which is designed for bedroom use by beginners. They are, however, too quiet to be heard over a drum kit, so you’ll need a larger amp once you start performing.

Once you have your gear, you’re going to want to get some lessons. By taking lessons as a beginner, you develop good habits right from the start. A good teacher will help you with all parts of your playing, from technique to tone. Lessons may seem pricy, but they are worth it.

So, I hope this gives you a quick idea about what it takes to learn to play the bass guitar.  Getting better takes time, but its all worth it in the end. It’s not an easy instrument, but once you become proficient, it is very rewarding to play.

What’s one of the best things about MP3 players? Of course portability! For many people a good, sturdy, great-looking case is one of the most-used MP3 player accessories. Clips for belts and backpack straps are another popular option. You can expect to pay from $9.99 for some of the least expensive cases, up to $29.99 or more for the higher-end sport armbands or other carriers.

Speakers

But enjoying your MP3 player isn’t always about portability, right? Allowing you to get that concert-hall sound right in your living room are lots of great speaker solutions. Depending on the features you need, prices can run from the high $20s to $250 and more.

One of the most creative MP3 player accessories on the market today is a device that allows you to listen to your MP3 files through your car’s stereo system. In fact, some auto manufacturers have begun installing MP3 inputs at the factory. But even if your ride didn’t come with a built-in MP3 jack, don’t despair—plenty of vendors have what you need to hear your favorite music (or watch your video files with sound from your car’s audio system) while you’re cruising down the road.
